Runa Gunnarsdotir
NAME: Runa Gunnarsdotir
AGE: 20
SOCIAL CLASS: Lower Class
STATUS: Single
OCCUPATION: Language Teacher
PLAY-BY: Astrid Berges-Frisbey
BLOOD STATUS: Muggleborn
EYES: brown doe eyes
HAIR: black waves
SKINTONE: white porcelain skin
HEIGHT & WEIGHT: 5’1, petite frame
DISTINGUISHING MARKS: her lips red as blood
OVERALL PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Runa is the image of a porcelain doll. Her skin is perfect and quickly pales in the winter and when she hasn’t been outside for some time. Her brown eyes have a look of innocence about them, but her most striking feature are her lips which are of a deep red and given by nature. Her black hair reaches in waves down to her elbows when she wears it down, which she does on occasion when not in public. However when among people she has it always pinned up accurately but not adorned with artificial curls like some upper class ladies. She is quite short and her frame is lithe. Her slim feet can move soundlessly. It took her some time to accomplish it and she hates it every day she looks at them, but she managed to remove almost all the rough patches and callouses on her hands nature had left there. Only someone very perceptive would notice that those are not the hands of a fragile young woman trusted with children and educated in many languages.
NON-MAGICAL SKILLS: Runa is a survivor. Her time in nature has taught her how to survive without any help whatsoever. She can run, climb trees and move stealthily. Before that she was taught languages early on by her governess. And while she wasn’t exceptionally enthusiastic about it, Runa learned them and learned them quickly for she was a very perceptive child. Even though she is lacking practice in most of them, she is still fluent in some and can get by just fine in the others.
MAGICAL SKILLS: Her wand was a help in nature too. And while Runa would get angry at anyone who suggested she survived just with help of magic, it did ease the one or the other situation. She is also quite skilled in Herbology and learned many useful potions from her grandmother. The more advanced spellwork, while it suffices for creating potions, she sees no need to push herself to accomplish. However she wants to one day learn how to cast a patronus and she knows a few defensive spells and can do a few offensive ones as well.
WEAKNESSES: She does not trust easily. While it might not be bad in general to not trust lightly, even those she is close to she has trouble trusting. She is afraid that if she gives away too much people might use it against her eventually. Too she wants to protect herself from disappointment. By not giving those she meets her trust immediately, it can’t be broken, same as with not loving quickly and deeply for her parents have already once broken her, this being complete with her grandmother’s death who had become a mother figure to her.
STRENGTHS: Runa can put up a good fight when it comes to willpower for she definitely has enough of that. She doesn’t flinch away from pain and will jump in the way of maltreatment any time. However she is not the one to comfort the next crying child in the street but would rather just check if it is hurt before moving on. She has great patience when it comes to waiting, waiting for animals mostly, but also waiting for a learner to understand. For she knows that time has little grasp on her and can value just sitting in silence for any length of time.
QUIRKS & HABITS: There is not a single chair in Runa’s little cot. She prefers to sit on the ground and is often found underneath the table or even on it instead of sitting at it, which is where she prepares her food too.
OVERALL PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION: Runa is a free spirit but knows when it serves her best to reign in her longing for freedom to live peacefully. She is brave and independent but can appear to be a fragile young woman in need of help with every little step as she might just collapse. Her experiences in life, losing the love of her parents and being left by her closest guardian as well as her life in nature have made her cautious in social interaction and while she isn’t shy she will always be guarded and afraid someone might take her freedom away from her. If she is at ease though she can be bursting with energy, making fun of herself and others and daring bordering on stupidity if she is feeling exceptionally giddy, which doesn’t happen often though. Runa doesn’t stand out much and would be seen as a nice enough person to be around, albeit a bit strange at times.
BIRTH PLACE: Sweden
PARENTS: Gunnar Svensson and Ava Hardonsdotir
SIBLINGS: none apart from one adopted brother to be the heir to her parents and who is to support her with an annual sum
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: none
CHILDREN: none
OTHERS: Thordis Hardonsdotir (grandmother, dead)
CHARACTER HISTORY: Runa’s father, Gunnar Svensson from Norway, and her mother Ava Hadronsdotir met on both their parents' behalf. As the families owned land which would be even more benefactuary if combined, the children married eventually, as was arranged. Between the partners something akin to love developed and for many years they tried to have an heir but remained unsuccessful. Due to the pressure Ava felt from both their families she had an affair with another man and became pregnant. Of course Gunnar noticed that Runa with her black hair couldn't be his child as both he and Ava were blonde, but he kept quiet about it, being silently grateful to have the families off their backs.
Runa was born into this rich Swedish family of Muggles. Often both her mother and father were from home, not telling their child where they would go, and so Runa spent much time with her governess and later with her grandmother. The governess taught her many languages, crafting like sewing and knitting, manners and proper dancing which Runa found boring but learned regardless as she didn't have anything better to do. Her grandma on the other hand taught her far more interesting things and introduced her into a world little Runa wouldn't have thought possible. Her grandmother turned out to be a witch who saw the signs of magic Runa showed. From then on Runa couldn't wait for her parents to leave so she could spend more time with her grandmother and later on that she'd be allowed to go to school. Expecting that their child received the best education and having discussed the matter, however reluctantly, with the grandmother Runa's parents sent her off to Durmstrang Academy.
Runa could've been considered a good student. She was eager to learn, caught on easily and was studious. But only when she wanted to. Subjects she considered useless or boring practically didn't exist in her time table. She did go to class, but didn't make an effort apart from that. Her being so stubborn and unwilling to follow rules drove the teachers up the walls. Her parents didn't really care as they didn't indulge in something they didn't understand. And even though they loved their daughter dearly they became distant to their child the more it engaged in the strange art.
At school she didn’t make many friends but among those the closest was Milton Rochester. She felt accepted by him and not judged which gained him her trust, something rarely bestowed. She too admired his bravery as he joined the Dragon Clan in his teenage years and Runa was fascinated by the organization and would’ve joined along with her friend had not her grandmother’s worry held her back for she valued the woman’s opinion very much and didn’t want her to worry. Still she got in contact with some from the Dragon Clan though Milo and found a friend in Olga, a few years older than her and a beast of a woman, often mistaken for a man as she was tall and muscular with short hair and surpassed many a man in strength. Runa looked up to the woman and how her physique helped her to easily bring her point across with the men where Runa was quite literally simply overlooked due to her petite frame.
Only a few weeks after Runa's graduation her grandmother passed away after having suffered from a fatal disease for only a short time. Her death hit Runa hard and to distract herself she packed a small bag, grabbed her wand and went hiking across Scandinavia for a two years. She quickly learned to live from and in nature so after a few months she wandered far from civilization. Here she developed her fascination with wolves after she found a cub in a hunter’s trap which she freed. Even while she was still busy with the task the she-wolf returned for her offspring. Runa and the she-wolf approached each other cautiously, but the animal seemed to sense that Runa helped her cub. Maintaining cautious contact after weeks the she-wolf accepted Runa in incomplete pack. It was them she parted most unwillingly from.
But eventually she felt that she might be able to deal with her grief and there was a spot in her heat, which she hadn’t known existed, which longed for human interaction again. However after her trip she didn't find it in herself to return to Sweden to her parents who were so different from her, let alone the country where she had made the most freeing experiences in her life, which she would have to hide once back in society. Instead she took the small fortune she'd inherited from her grandmother and moved to Great Britain for a new start, where her being fluent in many languages, English among them, helped her settle in.
Once she was back in society she granted her grandmother her wish and made an effort not to be wild, by far not as wild as she had been the past years. Instead Runa created a mask for herself and hid her wish for freedom and her rebelling self behind charming dresses and a perfect exterior. But as soon as the eye of the public was turned, her transformation began, back to the darker, more individualistic, headstrong Runa. She found herself an employment in a rich family where she taught the two little daughters the languages she knew. She disliked the grand town house with the many servants and perfect furniture and how they wasted food. So eventually she began stealing from them. Just little things which she thought she would put to better use than them. Like for example she stole pants from the girls’ older brother which had ripped at the knee. For where nobody could see her Runa loved to wear pants but she couldn’t very well go and buy them for herself.
After a few months in London and at the outskirts of it where she lives in a little cot surrounded by greenery in the most simple circumstances, she is not sure if it had been the right decision to come here and abandon her freedom in nature. She rather finds herself regretting it.
