Petronella Nurbanu Scamander
Loving Wife, Mother, Daughter, and Sister
"Lavinia and Petronella Fawley, they were always together."
"Books. How she loved books."
"She was always writing at school, filling up pages of leather journals her father sent her."
"Mother. She was afraid of leaving her son without a mother."
Date of Death: October 7th, 1881
Cause of Death
Though it is still unsure whether the disease that Petronella was diagnosed with is hereditary and comes from her mother, it was a very similar case. The only difference was that she had not just given birth. She was, however, in the very early stages of her second pregnancy. It was too early for it to be visible to the eye, but she knew herself. For two weeks she held on to life, receiving many visitors to her bedside. As her death drew near, she handed over the last journal she'd written in, but not yet filled to her father. She wanted it to be a comfort to him in her absence, as he had been the one to encourage her writing. Outwardly, she appeared calm with the idea of passing, but the night before her death, she told her husband that she was frightened and did not wish to leave at all.

Her Story
Petronella was the younger twin born from her mother, Elenore, before the woman passed from what Healers would call "childbed fever" and "a strange disease". She never knew her biological mother, but could remember her step-mother, Elizabeth Bulstrode, and a governess from her very early years. And her grandmother Fawley. The two of them got along very well, though Petronella refused to speak to the woman for all of one week after she introduced her father to Luana Lovegood. She didn't want another step-mother, mostly because she didn't want her father's attention to be diverted any further from her. If he had a new wife, he would surely have new children with her. Although in disagreement with her grandmother that marriage would make her father happy once more, she did want to see him smile again, which was her only reason for allowing the marriage to take place.
She took up writing quickly as a child and was very interested in the books her father kept in his study. The man would often find her there, her twin as an accomplice, with his books scattered about the floor. It was for this reason that he began to read books to the two when he had time and sent Petronella journals to write in while she was away at school. Never as outgoing as her sister, she preferred to shine in the background. And shine she did, when it came to her studies. This was the first thing that bonded her with Peregrin Scamander when the two were married. He also enjoyed books. His home had a huge library full of them. She would often sneak books from the library, afraid that he might not like her touching them when she did not know him so well. One day, he asked her what she was reading, a knowing smile on his face. Shocked, she hesitantly revealed what she'd been doing for two months and asked for forgiveness. Peregrin laughed before telling her that the library was hers, if she loved books that much. He playfully referred to her as his book thief from then on.
As a parent, she was very cautious about where she took her son and who was allowed to handle him. Knowing how easily babies could die, she was severely frightened that such a fate would befall her baby. But by the time of his second birthday, she had lightened up regarding the matter. It was just like her to do such a thing, for Petronella was the type of girl to worry herself over matters out of her control, but learn from experience and let go of those worries.
