Richard Jake Jones
NAME: Norman Jake Carrow goes by Richard Jones (often still called Jake).
AGE: 18, birthday 19 April
SOCIAL CLASS: Lower class, former upper class
STATUS: Single
OCCUPATION: Bartender at the Hog’s head.
PLAY-BY: Reeve Carney
BLOOD STATUS: Squib (would have been a pureblood otherwise)
EYES: Hazel with a green tone.
HAIR: light brown, straight length just over his eyes.
SKINTONE: Pinkish but turns paler when inside for a long time.
HEIGHT & WEIGHT:
6'1 (1.84 m), 67 kg, 147 pounds
DISTINGUISHING MARKS:
Several runic marks across his body, both scars and tatoos.
OVERALL PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
Richard is overall quite tall and slim. His face is even but his chin ends in a light pointy feature. His cheekbones also stand out a little which make it look like he hasn't eaten well sometimes(mainly because that's the case). He usually dresses casually, but has a few formal clothing pieces which he had brought along. Darren enchanted them so they'd always fit him. In case they were needed. Richard has several markings on his body which form a complicated runic spell together. They are everywhere and he is happy enough that there are none on his head or neck. Most are on his arms, back and shoulders. Richard doesn't really care how he looks like however he knows that costumers prefer to be served by someone good looking so during work he tries.
Richard possessed bright brown hair which gets darker in the winter. It reaches till over his eyes but he always tries to make sure it doesn't cover them. His eyes are hazel coloured but have a shimmer of green in them when in the right light. Above his eyes are thick eyebrows but they don't make him look unattractive.
NON-MAGICAL SKILLS:
Social skills, easy talker, great bar kills(can tap the best beers in town), he can play several instruments.
MAGICAL SKILLS:
Nothing really, he is a squib. Through the runic experiments which had been done on him he would be able to preform one spell though when marking the activating rune with his blood. However after casting a spell he'll faint as it drains all his energy. So he never uses it because it is too much effort.
WEAKNESSES:
Due to his past Norman had grown a huge fear of needles and some other tools as well. He also feels uncomfortable along elder males(especially with beards). Richard avoids having to talk about the past because he doesn't want to think back to it. He also doesn't like change too much, it took him some time to get adjusted to his new life. Norman also has trouble trusting someone even when he appears to be open. From time to time he can be quite stubborn he is willing to lower his morals to get what he wants.
STRENGTHS:
Perseverance, independent, patient, good listener, despite what he has been gone through he manages to keep his cheerful nature however there are times when he can be grumpy like everyone else. He is kind and helpful. When needed he can stick up for himself despite having no magic.
QUIRKS & HABITS:
Sometimes when he ends up in an uncontrollable laughter he ends up snorting. However laughing like that doesn't really happen often.
OVERALL PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION:
Richard appears to be a calm and cheerful person. To the people in town he is only known as the wild boy from the pub who loves others. Which he does, he likes being around people but doesn't feel bonded to them. They are more of a distraction to him as they keep his mind occupied. Losing everything he once owned made him feel like he has become a stranger to the world. When he thinks back and sees what others have he can become jealous. So he tries to avoid being in that situation.
He loves playing the host and the bar is his domain. He can come across a little flirty but it's all part of the job. When having time off, he usually sits in his small rented room and does nothing really. He likes watching things pass by and see what keep people occupied. Despite that he deep down craves for it, Richard doesn't seem like a person to take a relationship seriously. He often has a few flings at the same time and is quite open when it comes to such things. However he doesn't go to bed with everyone he hangs out with. Despite being known as the flirt of the town, he is quite withdrawn when it comes to sexual intercourse.
Richard is always looking for happiness, and it doesn't matter to him if he finds it in a good book or a person as long as he can have it for a while. He hates being disturbed when is is into something and can get angry easily when done so. Nor does he like being pushed, which can also pull a trigger. His boss has learned to leave him to do his thing because when he tried to help, Richard got the wrong idea and started to yell at him,
In short: he seems like a lose and open guy but hides away a darker past, which he tries to forget about.

Darren Chesmarn (died early 1883): Son of Ivan and Lisa. Darren was a little older than Norman and a stable and supportive friend. They became close like brothers.
CHARACTER HISTORY:
(to young members; warning can be a little bit dark)
He was born as Norman Jake Carrow as only child from a happy married couple. They'd been trying to have kids for really long but didn't succeed for years. At first they didn't even believe that Rowena was pregnant but as the healers at St. Mungos told them the news they were the happiest people in the world. At young age Norman was spoiled by his parents being the child they'd awaited for so long. He was a happy little boy who could go along well with others. Norman learnt everything about the world from his mother who home schooled him until he would be old enough to go to Hogwarts. She also was supposed to learn him his first magic tricks but it never happened. He also didn't seem to posses the passletongue ability that ran in his mother's side of the family.
However as he aged and at the age of ten still wasn't able to produce magic, the worries of his parents began to develop. Norman was still naive and couldn't imagine what kind of consequences there may be ahead of him. His parents tried everything, different wands, potions but nothing worked. It seemed that he wouldn't be able to go to Hogwarts at the age of 11 but Finley never gave up. The man contacted a sorcerer who specialized in dark runic magic and claimed to be capable of letting muggles preform magic. In the mean time the parents kept pretending towards the remaining family members that their son indeed was a wizard but they decided to home school him. Which lead to great discussions between Rowena and her mother.
The Carrow parents had been foolish to believe that the treatment of the man called Ivan Chesmarn would work. Norman spend a lot of days in the Chesmarn house who at first sight seemed to be a casual half blood family. Mr. Chesmarn had a wife named Lisa and together they had a son of about Norman's age who did go to Hogwarts named Darren. Norman barely saw the wife or the son and spend most time being frightened by Mr. Chesmarn's weird rituals. It was a dark chamber where all kind of runic experiments took place. There were times when he wondered if his parents knew or why they would let this happen to him. Mr. Chesmarn was a middle aged man and at least ten years older than his wife, he had a beard which was the same fading red color as his hair. Ms. Chesmarn seemed to know what her husband was doing but also afraid to say something or so it seemed, Darren knew nothing which perhaps had been better. Mr. Chesmarn told Norman that his experiments have had success but the little boy was doubting if it was the truth.
The only times when Norman returned home were in the weekend but still then he was too afraid to tell his parents what actually was going on. However he always clinged onto his mother as she brought him to the house the Monday after.
Several times had Ivan carved runes into Norman's slim body, saying that when activated he'd be able to produce magic. Some were carved in by knives, leaving scars others were put in by a weird sort of ink and needles forming tattoo like marks. Mr. Chesmarn seemed to honestly believe that his inventions would make the world a better place one day and that everyone would be capable of magic. At the age of fourteen, the demonstrations of the runes began. They had to be activated by blood because Norman couldn't use a spell to do so. Strangely the runes seemed to glow and form a burning feeling underneath his skin. It didn't feel natural and actually hurt. Still he tried to play along in the hope he could return home soon. When trying to cast a simple spell it this time worked but the runes sucked all energy out of his body which caused him to faint. After the spell the runes deactivated once more.
While magic naturally runs on a sort of extra energy wizards possess, this form of magic uses the energy of nutritional supplements. Norman had to eat and drink a lot to prevent starving. At some point he knew for sure that this never was going to work, casting one spell sucked all of the energy he possessed at that point. How would he ever be able to do decent magic?
It seemed that the Chesmarns had become more of a family despite the twisted things Ivan did to him. Norman only saw his own parents occasionally even when his mother kept writing him that she missed him. From his father he didn't hear much. Slowly Norman started to develop some kind of friendship with Darren but didn't tell him about Mr. Chesmarn's experiments. Darren was a happy boy and Norman didn't want to ruin that. Sadly Darren was only home at holidays which left Norman alone with the two adults. Norman endured, it was not like the Chesmarn were evil people per see. They were welcoming him and treating him as if he were cousin. It was almost impossible to imagine what was going on in Ivan's dark experimenting room.
In the mean time had Ms. Chesmarn grown sick and was on her dying bed. While Norman's feeling towards her were neutral, he could notice a change in Mr. Chesmarn's attitude. The man became rougher than usual and while he had been careful with the experiments before, the man now seemed to unleash his anger and impotence on the young boy. It made him wish that Ms. Chesmarn would get better quickly. As the woman eventually died, Norman knew nothing good was going to happen. Which he had been right about Mr. Chesmarn seemed to have gone crazy and started to use Norman as a replacement for his wife who was an easy victim. At this time he was only sixteen and forced to do things he didn't want to. There were nights where he cried himself to sleep eventually when staying awake was no longer an option. He was truly afraid of Mr. Chesmarn who seemed like a total different person. These things didn't last longer than a month however because during the Christmas break Darren walked into the room and finally saw what his father had been doing all along. Despite being shocked Darren helped Norman and together they left the house.
First they fled to Norman's parents but arriving at the house his grandparents were there at a family dinner. They seemed to have figured out about Norman being a squib and as he entered the room, they looked at him as if he was filth. They were the same people who once brought him Christmas presents and sang songs with him. Now they looked like he meant nothing to them. Behind the old people he could see the hurt eyes of his parents. His mother was sobbing and his father was telling him that he was no longer welcome. He was left a great amount of money, enough to life a simple life without working. Still it was no solution and they were with two and not one. Darren and Norman left to Hogsmeade, where they picked up new identities. Norman was now Richard and Darren named Marcel.
It happened often that Norman felt guilty for dragging Darren along with him. The other male had studied and would be able to get a good job. However they stuck together and they both found small jobs in Hogsmeade. Darren got a job at the local book store. And Norman worked as a barman where he gave the customers who came often special services upon requested. He didn't mind kissing the hands of old ladies or giving depressed drunk people a shoulder to cry on. Nor did he really care about others except for Darren and himself. But it paid off eventually. He opened more up and was able to talk casually with the customers as if he had been doing this his whole life. He only seemed to have trouble when it came to elder males. They brought back bad memories and thus he tried to stay away from them as often as possible. Both Darran and Norman decided never to tell others about their pasts. Nor was Norman, now Richard planning on telling people he was a squib. He still knew more about the magical world than the muggle one and wasn't planning on living there.
Having a young and attractive barman like Richard, made a lot of Hogwarts students going to Hog's Head as well except for the Three Broomsticks alone. He always played his part as kind and listening barman as he tried to sell as many drinks as possible. However he couldn't help but actually be really interested in the tales the students had to tell. It was the school he was supposed to go to. Only a year ago Darren suddenly died from the same sickness which killed his mother. Norman was overwhelmed by his loss and hasn't been able to find peace in it yet. While he promised to keep on going trying to find happiness eventually, he became a little more reckless. The pleasures in life began to interest him which he never bothered before but he had lost the last person who he kept living for so he didn't really care. He never over did anything as he didn't want to lose his job but he has been seen snogging people during work times. This includes both girls and boys.
