BIRTH PLACE: Bristol, England

SIGNIFICANT OTHER: N/A

OTHERS: He considers his shipmates to be his family.
CHARACTER HISTORY: Obediah Horace Rowle was born into one of the families that would soon become proudly known as the Sacred 28. Like most Purebloods, Thorfinn Rowle married his second cousin Mira when he was just nineteen years old, Mira eighteen. The two had a beautiful baby girl, Lenora, a year later, but despite their many tries they had not been gifted a son until the fourth pregnancy when the Healers told the happy couple that Mira was having twins. Thorfinn feared that he would be having two daughters again, especially when Mira went into labor and delivered a healthy baby girl; however the Gods seemed to be on his side that evening because the second child was not a girl but was instead a baby boy. Thorfinn was beyond ecstatic when he heard the news and spent all of his time with his son, teaching him everything that he would need to know to be a respectable Pureblood Wizard.
Like his father before him, Thorfinn wasn’t afraid to raise a hand to his children when he felt they were misbehaving or doing something below their rank. This happened many times in their youth when they were spotted playing with the lower class or someone who was not a pureblood witch/wizard, or worse a squib. Thorfinn would have their tutor teach them the names of all the Pureblood families in London so they wouldn’t get confused or think they could pass off ignorance as an excuse.
When Morfin Gaunt, a good friend of Thorfinn, brought his son up in conversation, who was the same age as Obediah, he told him how his son just recently performed magic for the first time, stating that the boy set fire to the couch before laughing in amusement. Thorfinn laughed as well but it was rather forced as he realized, with much embarrassment that his son had yet to show any magical ability. Mira tried her best to comfort her husband on the matter, stating that Obediah was still young and that he had a lot of time to show his abilities, but he wouldn’t have it. He began setting up many trials to try to get his son to perform magic, which included torture from time to time while his wife and other children were away; telling his son that the only way he would stop is if Obediah made him. The torturing became more constant as Obediah drew closer and closer to his eleventh birthday to the point that it would happen more than once a week.
Then on Obediah’s eleventh birthday his father used magic to make his stand on a chair and tie a rope around his neck before forcing him to kick it out from underneath him. The man left the room immediately but not before whispering, you brought this upon yourself Obediah. Then at the last second his twin sister, who he was always close to found him and took him down immediately. When Obediah came to his sister told him to leave and never come back, that he couldn’t stay here because if he did their father would kill him. He didn’t want to leave his Twin and begged her to come with him but she shook her head, May we meet again, was the last thing she spoke to him before she pushed him out the window of the basement.
Terrified Obediah ran and ran, afraid his father was coming after him, every time he turned the corner on the street, every time he wanted to stop for breath, the fear was still there, yelling at him to keep going. So he did until the third night when he was sure his father wasn’t following him. At just eleven years old Obediah had no idea how he would survive on his own but he knew he would, no matter what it took he would survive.
He began to steal things from others whenever he could, hiding in a Shack that was said to be haunted by the locals, using its old moth eaten bed as a place to sleep until he could find a better place. He was caught several times with his hands where they shouldn’t be but was always let go when he started to cry, begging for forgiveness and promising he would never do it again.
When he was thirteen he got a job at the docks helping local fishers bring in the daily catch. He was well known to the regulars as they all knew his face as well as his ‘story’. He told whoever would ask that his father was off to war and his mother was too sick to work, some took pity on the boy and would ask him to go out on the boats with them as they needed an extra hand and he always agreed, Clarke Every, a fifty year old widow, eventually hired Obediah as a deckhand. When Clarke asked Obediah his name Obediah answered rather stiffly that he didn’t have one, shocked Clarke asked about his old man but when Obediah refused to answer anything Clarke dropped it and started to call him Roman.
A few months after Obediah turned fifteen the ship was taken over by a group of pirates and Clarke was immediatley killed right in front of Obediah who viewed the man as a father figure. The Captain told everyone on the ship if they agreed to follow him they would be spared, if not they would all die. Obediah took the logical step and agreed to follow the Captain despite his hatred. Over the next two years, along with the last memory he had with his dad, he began to have nightmares of Clarke dying in front of him. The Captain then told everyone, after they had taken a ship on its way to America, that they too were going that way.
When they made port to get some supplies and have their last hurrah, obediah was back on the ship planning to take what little he had and leave without anyone noticing. However Obediah ran into the captain who questioned 'Roman' on the spot asking where the Hell he was going and Obediah told him without pause which led to a fight. Despite his weight and height Obediah was able to over take him by playing dirty before putting a sword into his chest. Shocked at what he had done Obediah stole the ship and couldn't help noticing how okay he felt afterwards which confused him but also convinced him he could kill his father easily that way.
