CHARACTER HISTORY:
Christopher was born in the outskirts Sheffield in his parent’s vacation house. He was born a few weeks early while they were relaxing with their oldest child Edgar Burke. He grew up in their family home in Rotherham together with his older brother and younger sister, 3 house elves and a well tamed gryphon. It was a peaceful time with nothing to worry about for Christopher. His older brother carried all the expectations and he could blame things on his little sister. It was time in with he learned to use basic magic skills he also loved visiting his grandfather Greorge Burke. His grandfather was a quite renowned alchemist and Christopher loved all the shiny potions and objects in his working room. His grandfather saw the potential in the small lad and let him watch him work, even explaining how harmless potions and transmutations could be created.
In his teens Christopher went to Hogwarts of with he heard all kinds of things form his older brother. His grandfather told him that it’s a great magical place and that he should study hard to become a smart educated man. He was sorted in Ravenclaw and was quite happy with this. After all Ravensclaws were supposed to work hard and he was just planning to do that. He didn’t really participate in sports, he could fly on a broomstick but wasn’t nearly good enough to qualify for the Quidditch team. He finished his studies and got good overall marks and in potions outstanding marks.
After his studies he helped his grandfather create potions and opened a small shop in Knockturn Alley called Burke’s potions and components. His marriage got arraigned by his father and he met Eudora Black. Having never really been interested in other things besides his studies getting married was quite a new experience for Christopher. After a few months he learned to love her and some months later again they had their first child: Frederick Burke. Frederick brought on some change in Christopher’s personality, no longer he only cared for studies and creating new materials trough alchemy. He now had a family to care for, it was time for him to take responsibility and make sure that’s his kids lived a live without troubles and too much hardship. Two years later Christopher and Eudora had twins, 2 daughters by the names of Marguerite and Melody. All this time he still ran his shop in Knockturn Alley making some good profits and experimenting with new materials and potions. He continued to do so until after his last child was born: Belmorn Burke.
Christopher continued his experiments in Knockturn Alley till 1840, at this moment his goals were to create an Panacea so that he and his wife could live on forever. Over this time he had collected a fair amount of gold, enough to buy the rented building in Knockturn Alley, with he did in 1835. He also sought contact with a famous alchemist called mr Flamel. But unfortunately he never managed to meet him, making Christopher call him a pompous French bastard.
Life went on until the year 1842, finally his eldest son was to get married to a nice and proper family. He arranged the marriage himself, for he was well acquainted with Septimus Malfoy, a regular customer of the darker parts of his shop. And having done some favours for Septimus it wasn’t very hard to convince him to let his own eldest son marry his eldest daughter. It was a time of joy, especially when 9 months later Christopher became a grandpa. By this time however Christopher was over 40 years old and he sought a new challenge in life. He heard rumours that they were looking for a new member in the department of mysteries. Always seeking for new materials and opportunities of alchemical nature Christopher was somewhat interested. After all no one except those working in the department had access to the information inside it. The only downside was that he could tell no one about his work, not even his family. He however expected them to understand that he fulfilled a important position in with secrecy was the utmost importance, and that their lives could be in danger when he told them what he was doing.
It was in the year 1845 when events unrolled that made Christopher explode in anger and frustration, his own daughter, Marguerite, had secretly married a filthy muggle. How was it even possible that one could be interested in these things. It would be the same as laying with a pig or a cow. Absolutely unacceptable. He had to erase them from his family, with he did by dissolving their bodies, making them disappear. He told his family and registration offices that they went overseas to explore the new world called America. This was quite easy using some of his potions and alchemical skills. Doing this however changed Christopher, he became a more dark person. All the secrets he had to keep from his family and officials transformed him into a somewhat strange person that at times was very clear headed and sometimes scatter-brained.
He continued his work as an Unspeakable and retired in the year 1860. In his retirement he opened up his shop again, this time his grandson Caractacus showed interest in the place as well. Christopher was glad that one of his bloodline was interested in the place he didn’t really care what they were going to sell in it as long as it was interesting. He supplied Caractacus with the contacts and funds he needed to start his own business letting him take the lower floors of the building Christopher himself continued his work to create a Panacea eventually creating a half working version in 1865 that seemed to slow his aging when implanted in his body. He however kept this as one of his secrets, knowing that only trouble would come if officials were to find out he creating such illegal objects.
In the year 1867 he deemed it save enough to implant a partial Panacea in his wife, this however resulted in a catastrophic failure. Somehow the balance of the Panacea was off and instead of granting life it ruined her mind, leaving her in a deteriorated state. Christopher felt devastated how could it possibly have gone wrong, after all he used the same kind of object on himself with great success. And although they weren’t perfect, they were definitely the beginning of creating a fully functional Panacea. Or so he thought. He arranged a place in St Mungo's for her, leaving his precious wife in their care. He himself tried to find out what could have gone wrong with the implantation, was it the implantation itself, or was the object itself at fault? He spend 5 years trying to figure out what cause could have been and searching for remedies, as test subjects he used homeless muggles which were plenty in supply, ultimately however finding none.
Annoyed at his failing to find a cure he needed distractions. The shop was no option, Caractacus seemed to have everything perfectly under control. So it was in the year 1872, 5 years after the accident that put his wife in St Mungo’s that Christopher found the distractions he needed to keep his mind from exploding. He would become a teacher at the place where his quest of knowledge had begun. A professor in potions, and alchemy if students where interested in it. he continued his experiments and goal in life at Hogwarts while giving lessons on how all the “easy everyday” potions where made. Sometimes student managed to blow his mind by creating horrible draughts instead of the carefully explained potion he just made as an example. He really wonders what such students are doing at Hogwarts, in his time at least they were more serious about studies and such.

ROLEPLAY SAMPLE:
Christopher walked through Knockturn Alley, it has been a while since he visited Caractacus‘s shop. Somehow the alley seemed to grow darker over the years, he could remember the time when he had his shop in potions and reagents. It was in the exact same building as the shop, it was the place that made his stash in Gringotts glimmer with gold even till this day. He remembered the neighbourhood changing over the years, places that had first housed a bakery now somehow sold small trinkets that were supposed to make one feel better and protect give protection from supernatural beings. Christopher didn’t believe in such fables, how could such a simple charm protect one from anything lethal anyway? While he wandered through the alley lost in his thoughts he bumped into someone. “hey watch it ” on with he replied: “I’m the elder here careless youngster, you better watch where you’re going if you’re in a hurry ”. While looking somewhat amused but also surprised at his arrogance. Slightly disgruntled he continued on his way, youngster’s these days had no respect for their elders, what was the word going to? In the meantime he had arrived at number 20, the place he knew well. He opened the door and walked through the opening, his eye’s falling upon all the interesting objects Caractacus managed to collect. Somehow he still felt at home in here even after all that had happened and after all the years that had passed. He walked up to the working room and prepared to greet Caractacus. With a friendly smile on his face and a little twinkle in his eye’s he said: “Hello grandson, how is business fairing?”
