Kota Nakogee
NAME: Kota Nakogee
AGE: 17
SOCIAL CLASS: Middle class
SCHOOL YEAR: 6th yr
PLAY-BY: Willy Cartier
BLOOD STATUS: Half-blood
EYES: Brown
HAIR: Brown
SKINTONE: Fair
HEIGHT & WEIGHT: 5'10
DISTINGUISHING MARKS: His bushy eyebrows and long hair
OVERALL PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Half American Indian and half Inuit Eskimo, Kota has long brown hair that falls past his shoulders. It is fairly unkempt, but not so much of a mess that it can't be tamed with a little patience and time. Sometimes he wears his hair freely, or he'll tie it up, or even braid it depending on his mood. Despite his wild hair, he has light facial hair that is well kept and his overall attire is decent. When he's not in his school robes, he's in something comfortable. He also had a few freckles across his nose and extremely bushy eyebrows. He also wears bracelets made by his mother and paternal grandmother, and usually is wearing some necklace or another.
NON-MAGICAL SKILLS: Because Kota doesn't often use magic, he's got a lot of useful skills that don't require magic. He knows how to survive in the outdoors, knowing which berries to pick for food and which leaves can be used for healing. He knows how to hunt without guns like the upperclass do. He's skilled in using a bow and arrow and spears as well. He can also fish. He and his father often take camping trips through the wilderness without any gear, just the clothes on their back.
MAGICAL SKILLS: Kota has done well to keep up in his studies, but he rarely uses the magic he's learned whenever he's home. He is however proficient in Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures. He can identify most of the plants and creatures without issue, although he does have to refer to his notes here and there.
BEST/WORST CLASSES: His best classes are Herbology, History of Magic, Music, and Care of Magical Creatures. His worst classes are Potions and Transfiguration.
WEAKNESSES: Kota is stubborn to a fault, so stubborn that he's willing to go on a one-maned strike. He is also strictly against violence. He'd rather take a beating instead of throw a punch. His father taught him that a man does not stoop to the level of his adversary. Standing up to people who have nothing better to do than make other's hurt is below him. People have taken advantage of that, but Kota brushes it off and keeps moving. He finds being inside the castle suffocating. He often refers to Hogwarts as a prison and would prefer that more classes be held outside. He tends to take the seat next to the window, which causes his mind to wander and he misses important things that are being taught. He's not easily distracted, but he does daydream sometimes.
STRENGTHS: Kota is a free spirit, in the sense that he is very accepting and open. Nothing really gets under his skin. He's kind and compassionate and willing to help those who are willing to admit they are in need of it. Kota has an affinity for all things natural. He can sit for hours outside, laying in the grass letting the sun warm him. Kota has no enemies, or rather, he chooses not to have any, although there's bound to be someone who doesn't like him, he typically just brushes it off. He's a great friend to have, a shoulder to lean on, an ear to listen. Kota is always there when you need him. He is full of so much love without the need for affection. He also stands up for what he believes in, for he was taught to do just that.
QUIRKS & HABITS: When Kota considers someone a close friend or someone he has feelings for, he will give them a nickname, like his little sister has done for him. It usually has something to do with their personality or how he sees them on a personal level. He sometimes speaks in what could be riddles, but usually it has some underlying meaning. At night, Kota goes up to the empty tower and he listens to all the sounds of the night.
OVERALL PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION: Kota is very comfortable in his own skin. He is very in tune with the world around him. He is a proud boy and very stubborn, but not so stuck in his ways that he is unwilling to change. Kota draws his strength from all things pure, whether it is laughter, smiles, or just the positive energies from nature. He has no issue sitting outside in the courtyard just taking in his surroundings. Kota can easily become lost in the outdoors, but not lost in the sense that he can't find his way, but lost in the sense that he lets his mind wander. Kota has many questions, like what is the true meaning of life, what is everyone's purpose, and what is beyond this life.
Kota is not a complex person. He is very open with everyone. He is, what people call an open book. Kota has no secrets. He often expresses himself through music, whether it be the flute or the drums. When stressed or upset he can be found outdoors. He is not an exceptional person, he is simply Kota and you can either love or hate him. Kota could care less, for he holds no qualms. He'd rather not poison himself with such trivial things. Life is too short to be angry with those who wish you ill. Kota only wishes to get all he can out of life.

CHARACTER HISTORY: Kota Nakogee is the first and only son of Mingan Nakogee, a full blooded Cree Indian and Tapeesa Nakogee, a full blooded Inuit (Eskimo). His parents met at Ilvermorny when his mother was a first year, but it wasn't until after they'd both graduated and Mingan had traveled to Alaska to learn the ways of the Inuit did they actually take an interest in one another. They were later married and resided in Alaska until Kota was seven and then moved to America where he spent the next three years of his life until his father and mother jointly agreed to move the UK. A distant relative had children attending Hogwarts and gave them the idea that Kota would enjoy school there.
Growing up, Kota was exposed to a variety of cultures, and he took pride in his Indian and Inuit heritage, specifically refusing to cut his hair once in the UK despite society pointing out that it was indecent. He was raised to keep his head held high and to be proud of who he was and more importantly, to fight what he believed in. His father would tell him that 'A silent man is a wise man, but a man who speaks and is heard is man who shall lead.' Mingan is a strict man, but his wife balances him out and together, Kota and his sisters have been raised pretty right.
Kota's life didn't change much with his Hogwarts letter. Neither of his parents use magic. His father is a Book Dealer, collecting and selling rare books while his mother is a healer. She uses natural herbs instead of magic and does all of her healing from in order to keep an eye on the girls. Magic was, as his father put it, an extension of themselves, but not necessary to live. Kota, a boy who always listened, did not argue the fact. With that being said, the year before he got his letter, his sister Kanti was born and he was very reluctant to leave her behind. Kota felt a duty to help raise his sister, and Hogwarts was interrupting that duty. Regardless he went.
Growing up in a magical family that didn't use magic often meant that Kota had a lot to learn. He struggled through his first classes, conflicted on whether he should strive for good grades, or if he should stick by his father's teachings that he should stand for what he believed in and that was that like his mother and father, he did not need magic. It wasn't until the Christmas break that he consulted with his mother on the matter, preferring to speak with her in person. She explained to him that while his father was right, one was never too set in their ways to take in more knowledge, that it was up to him to make his decision, that a boy must choose his own path into manhood. Admittedly, Kota had wanted to learn, because everyone had seemed like they'd been having so much fun and he'd been in the background like a fly on the wall. Upon his return from the break, Kota happily joined his classmates in actively learning how to utilize magic. The years would go by and Kota grew more and more in tune with what it meant to be a wizard and both parents were proud to see that he'd found his way, and more importantly himself.
It wasn't until his fifth year that things started to get a little rocky. His fifth year was the same year his sister Uki was born and his mother had complications with the birth. While Kota had been doing well in his classes, the news that his baby sister was weak and probably not going to survive and there was a chance his mother would also pass away, Kota demanded that he be allowed to return home to be with his mother and sister. His request was denied and so Kota refused to go to classes, detention, or even eat. He sat in the middle of the entrance hall day and night for a week until they agreed to let him go. Although he ended up failing his classes that year, Kota did not regret it, for he strongly believed his presence gave strength to his mother and sister and thus they are both okay today and his little sister Kanti has given him the nickname "Sitting Bull" because of his stubbornness.
Even with repeating his fifth year and not being in the same classes as his friends, Kota was quick to get back on track and pass his O.W.L.s with flying colors. Now in his sixth year, Kota continues to go about his normal routine of classes and extracurricular activities.
