Alfred Wright
NAME: Alfred Wright
AGE: 12
SOCIAL CLASS: Upper-Middle Class
OCCUPATION: Apprentice Attorney
PLAY-BY: Heydon Prowse (From "The Secret Garden")
BLOOD STATUS: Muggleborn
EYES: Blue
HAIR: Dark-ish blonde.
SKINTONE: Pale.
HEIGHT & WEIGHT: 4' 9", 90 lbs
DISTINGUISHING MARKS: Alfred is rather skinny, as he had gone through most of his life in the lower class and had gone some nights where he couldn't eat.
OVERALL PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Alfred is a small boy for his age, and that is to the fact that he hadn't received enough nutrients as he was growing. Hopefully soon, though, his adoptive father will be able to get him bigger. He has dark blonde hair that grows quite quickly and needs to be cut quite often. He has blue eyes that gleam happily in the sunlight, or downcast during stressful periods. He often wears the necklace his mother had given him around his neck.
NON-MAGICAL SKILLS: Alfred is good at things such as reading, writing, and arithmetic. He had just gotten a hold of these concepts recently, through his new father and mentor. He actually finds doing these things to be quite fun and enjoyable. He works hard at it every day, hoping to one day be able to do what his new father had done on that faithful day. Alfred is also very adaptive, when he isn't having a panic attack, that is. He can usually adjust to any situation, as long as it doesn't trigger him, and be able to problem solve his way through things.
WEAKNESSES: Alfred is prone to panic attacks. Ever since he had saw his mother die, he has had triggers that can push him into hyperventilating, shaking, crying, freezing up, and other effects. He also isn't very good with conversation. He is often too loud and maybe annoying at times. He tries to keep a happy face, even when he feels saddened, which makes him act this way. He's often prone to burning out because he studies a lot for a child as young as he is. He isn't very strong, but that will probably change soon, as he gets fed properly. He also never was able to attend Hogwarts, as his mother was very poor, so he is prone to magical outbursts, as he doesn't know how to control his magic.
STRENGTHS: Alfred is a very intelligent boy. He is able to pick up most information and content quite quickly and be able to apply it intuitively. He knows how to get his point across to people, even if it is quite loud and obnoxious... He is also very good at intrinsically solving problems, and thinking deeply. He can find patterns in some of the vaguest things. All he has to do is get the proper education to be able to apply these strengths. Alfred is also very good at picking up people's emotions. He can easily tell from conversations when somebody is happy, sad, or mad. He can sometimes even use this strength to know if he is being lied to or not.
QUIRKS & HABITS: Other than panic attacks and unrestricted magical outbursts, none.
OVERALL PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION: Alfred is a smart boy. He gains knowledge quite quickly. It is too bad that he was born into the lower class, because he would have probably excelled in Hogwarts. Even for muggle standards, the boy is behind in education. This is why he pushes himself to study hard and become like his adoptive father. He does have quite a lot of emotional outbursts when he comes across a stimulus that triggers the memories of his mother's death to come back to his mind. He often shuts down and cannot continue conversation. Although, if he were not to get a panic attack, the boy can be quite adaptive and a great problem solver. He is proactive and a hard working person overall.
BIRTH PLACE: Literally, in the streets of London with the assistance of an almost shady looking midwife.
PARENTS: Adoptive Father: Lee Wright, Biological Mother: Lillian Cook (deceased), Biological Father Unknown
SIBLINGS: None that he knows of.
OTHERS: N/A
PET: N/A
CHARACTER HISTORY: Alfred was born to a very poor, but loving woman: Lillian Cook. After having a one night stand with a man, this time not for money, she had became pregnant. It was quite a lot of work for the young woman to raise a child at 19, but she was able to push herself through it. She often went hungry because she could only afford to feed her son, Alfred Cook. She was a Muggle, and she did what she had to do to get by: sell the only thing she had left. It made money... Enough to feed and clothe her child, but it always seemed that they were out of place to stay.
Alfred loved his mother more than anything else growing up. Of course, he never knew what her job entailed, but she always came back with hugs, snuggles, and kisses for the young boy. Even when it was cold at night, his mother was always there to comfort him. While his mother was at work, however, Alfred would play with the other street boys, but he never felt a real connection with any of them. Alfred always awaited for his mother's return eagerly. It was a poor life, but he was happy living it as long as he had his mother.
When Alfred began to show magical signs, it really began to confuse his mother. She didn't know what to do until somebody who looked really fancy approached the two one night and explained to them that Alfred was a wizard and that he could attend a special school. Lillian did everything she could to save up enough money for her son to go, but it just wasn't enough, and the boy never went to school when he turned 11. He still to this day is prone to magical outbursts, but he tries his best to get a tighter grip on them now.
The summer Alfred turned twelve was great. His mother came back with more money and he was able to get nicer clothing and bigger meals. It lasted quite a few months, and Alfred was pleased. He loved seeing the smile on his mother's face when she was able to buy him something. He could just tell she was happy. This made him happy, not receiving the items.
One fateful night, however, Alfred's mother didn't come back. He waited and waited, but she didn't even come when the sun was beginning to set. The boy was in distress. His mother had never left him alone in the darkness. He was scared. He leaned against a wall and was beginning to cry, he didn't know what else to do, but then he heard a faint call of his name. He looked up, seeing somebody carrying a candle through the dark alleyway towards his makeshift shelter of a home. It was a male voice. He was confused. The man finally approached him and looked down at him before speaking, "You must be Alfred Cook, yes?"
Alfred was afraid to respond, as he was told to never talk to strangers. He looked at the man who was wearing dressy clothing and had a concerned look upon his face. Alfred didn't know what else to do other than nod, "Y- yes, sir..." The boy pulled his legs closer to him, hiding his face. He didn't know what to think, but he somehow had the sense that it had something to do with why his mother didn't show up.
"Ah, good," the man said, pulling out something from his pocket, "your mother told me to give this to you."
The boy peeked up and saw his mother's silver necklace dangling from the man's hand. The boy then licked his lips. This man could be trusted, "Why... Thank you, sir. How did you get it...? If you don't mind me asking... And where is Mama?"
The man looked at the child, then went down unto one knee to be eye to eye with Alfred. He looked a little sad when he spoke, "Your mother has been charged with larceny and is currently put away in jail... I'm her attorney... She told me to come and find you." The man then gave the necklace to Alfred and gave him a smile, "I think there is just some confusion, though... I believe that she is innocent and was just mixed up in all the chaos..."
"Oh..." Alfred blinked, stunned. He didn't know what to say. He just looked at the man. He was scared that his mother was in jail. He didn't know what he would do without her. He was scared that he would have to live alone for the rest of his life... He looked back at the man, speechlessly taking the necklace.
"Also," the man looked at Alfred, speaking gently, "I have to take you to the nearest orphanage... But don't worry. I'll visit you every day, alright? It'll be just until your mother is cleared. They'll keep you well fed."
The boy didn't know what to say... He was told the horror stories about being taken away to orphanages. His mother always worried that it would happen to him, so he didn't know what to think. The boy felt tears come to his eyes, but he swallowed and nodded, "A- Alright, sir... You promise to visit me?"
The man nodded, "I promise."
For the next few days, Alfred lived in the near by boy Muggle orphanage. He hated it. The lady in charge was always yelling and hitting the children. It seemed as if he couldn't go an hour without gaining another bruise of some sort. His body ached every day as he cleaned and did chores with the other boys. He often felt sad for the other children because he knew that his situation was very different from their's and that he would be out soon. Although, their sad attitudes often rubbed off on him. Alfred just felt plain miserable there. He always looked forward to when the man would come and get him, taking him on a walk to go somewhere far away from the orphanage. He learned lots of things about the man. He knew his name was Mr. Lee Wright and that he went to school for a very long time. He also knew that being a lawyer was hard work, but the older man seemed to like his job. It always made him happy to be able to talk to him. It took his mind off of things.
Alfred's mother's trial came only two weeks after she was arrested. Alfred remembered being awaken at a very early time and being picked up by Mr. Wright. He was excited and happy not only because he was going to be able to see his mother again, but because the older man was able to give Alfred special permission to sit in a chair with the defense. He was super excited to see his mother be free again and go back to living with her.
The trial went through quite easily, and it was clear that Alfred's mother didn't steal anything. Alfred found the affair to be quite interesting and he looked up to Mr. Wright for being able to help his mother out so much. The young boy hoped to be able to talk to him again after this. Just as Mr. Wright was about to wrap up the trial, the prosecution called the defendant to the stand, naming it as something important. When Lillian stood on the stand, she was asked that if she didn't commit the crime, then who did? Alfred was confused about why a question such as that was being asked, anyways... He looked at his mother before she answered and gave her a smile. She gave him a smile back and just then a blood was everywhere. A bullet had been shot straight at her forehead.
After seeing that gruesome scene, Alfred was pushed under the defense's bench by the lawyer. The words that rang out next will forever echo in Alfred's ears, "You know too much, bitch." He began to cry. His mother was lost forever. He felt empty, cold, and hallow. He leaned against the other man, he was scared and afraid. He could feel his limbs shaking and his heart began to race. He heard another voice screaming for the bailiff to run after somebody.
After that, the boy had to go back to the orphanage. Except, this time... He knew he would stay there. The young boy cried, never getting out of bed. He stayed like that for three days, only nibbling on food. He couldn't make himself move. It resulted in several out lashing and screaming from the lady in charge, but he ignored it, or it made him cry worse. Either way, he didn't get out of bed until the fourth day. That day was different, when he heard the door open he didn't hear a lecture. Instead it was silent and he felt the weight of somebody sit on the bed with him. He cringed, digging himself deeper into the blankets. He then heard a familiar male voice, "I know it must be rough... You lost everything..." The words were whispered to him, but they were loud in his heart. He couldn't hold it in anymore, he sprung up and hugged the older man, sobbing into his coat.
"There, there..." He heard the words echo in his ears and he just let it out. He could barely hear what the man said next, "I know you don't like it here... And I have an extra room at my house... If you wanted, I could..." The boy then let go of the man and wiped his tears, looking at him. He still felt like he wanted to cry, but now his body was filled with hope.
Alfred glanced at him, "...adopt me?"
The two stared at each other for a few seconds before the older man spoke, "Of course... That's actually why I came down here today. I'm sorry I couldn't the other days... I was filling out the paperwork. Of course, I wanted to ask you first."
The boy stared at him, his body felt paralyzed. For the first time in the past few days he felt hope. He was extremely sad, but he forced a smile unto his face, "Y- yes... I would like that!" He didn't want to live here anymore, and now he wouldn't... He then hugged the man again, crying from both the sadness and happiness that he was experiencing. After getting a hold on himself, Alfred packed his stuff and got himself ready and they left.
Upon getting to his new house, the older man looked at his new son, "So, I live above my firm. It isn't very big, but there is a place for you to have your own room, so I think you might enjoy it." Alfred couldn't believe what he saw when they entered the house, though. He thought it was so big and fancy. It had curtains and rugs and everything, it seemed. The boy couldn't help but smile when he saw it. When he was led to his room, he was even more amazed. He had his own bed, tiny bookshelf, desk, and a side table.
"Thank you..... Papa," he gave the older man a grin before lying down on his bed. The whole time wasn't spent with rainbows and smiles. Especially not the first two weeks. Alfred would often cry and grieve over his mother, and it took some time adjusting to how he was expected to act in his new household. The grieving began to become a numb feeling after the second week, but Alfred would never forget his mother, even if his crying became more separated. What made him think to try and control his grief? It was motivation...
One night, Alfred's new father had came into his room while Alfred was staring blankly at a wall. He had sat on the child's bed and looked at him, asking, "Alfred, do you know what you want to do? Have you ever had any kind of education? I should be looking for a school to enroll you in."
Alfred shook his head, "I never have gone to school before... I can only read a few words Mama taught me." The mention of his mother stabbed him in the chest, and he could feel tears coming to his eyes, but he wanted to listen to his new father.
"Hmm... Well, that is an issue..." His father looked at the ceiling, then back at him, "Do you know what you want to become? That might be able to help you know what you want to learn..."
What did he want to become? It barely took Alfred any time before he blurted out, "I want to do what you do."
His father's eyes lit up in shock, "Are you sure? Becoming an attorney is hard work... There are lots of other jobs out in the world..."
The boy shook his head, "No. I want to help other people like you helped Mama."
He watched as his father leaned back before speaking, "If that's the case... Then I suppose I could arrange something else... I'll have you taught from home then, and you will be my apprentice, but you must work hard. Do you understand? After you get the basic arithmetic and language skills, I will ask you again... Don't be afraid to change your mind. However, I will take you with me to work sometimes... If that's what you truly want."
Alfred nodded, "There is nothing I want more."
