CHARACTER HISTORY: Nikolas Stefan Potter was born to Matthias and Elizabeth Potter in January of 1856 in Wiltshire, closely followed by his twin sister, Cassandra. Niko and Cassandra got along moderately well for siblings, and as they grew older and went off to Hogwarts together, Niko became very protective of his sister. He was a very good student and was sorted into Gryffindor house, as was his father before him. He was a school prefect during his fifth and sixth years, and he was Keeper for the Gryffindor quidditch team.
He knew that he would be required to marry a pureblood girl, but he was surprised when his parents introduced him to Lavinia Fawley, a young girl three years his junior. She was beautiful, though. He didn't fight the match. On the contrary, he worried she might turn him away. He fell deeply in love with her, though
some of his acquaintance believed it was too strong and much too swift. He waited until she was of age, and then they married. Their first child, Hadrian, was born a year after their wedding. And their daughter Matilda was born three years after that.
Nikolas never wanted to be an auror as a student. In truth, he had no inkling at all as to what his future would hold. It wasn't until the age of sixteen, during a later trip to the Ministry with his father that the idea came to him. He saw the wand work of the aurors in training, and it was as if a window had been opened before his eyes. He never looked back after he made that decision, and though he is not on speaking terms with his father due to a ridiculous and inane squabble a few years after Hadrian was born, he still credits the man with helping him find his calling in the auror office.
He has been married to Lavinia for seven years, and they are generally very happy with their arrangement.

Nikolas looked around the cold drawing room and realized that the lamplight was growing dim. With a wave of his wand, he brightened the room, but he would need to call one of his house elves to strengthen the fire. Yet in his laziness, he chose not to summon anyone and he sat in his chilled state. He rubbed his hands together and breathed hot hair from his mouth onto his fingers.
He longed to be near Lavinia; to hear her laugh, or just to stroke his hands through her hair and sit in the garden the way they did in the summer evenings when it was warmer. But she was asleep, and he would not wake her for such selfish reasons. They did not have a perfect life, by any means. They argued often, as husband and wife were prone to do, but they loved one another fiercely. And with the birth of each of their children, their love for one another had only grown.
Nikolas found himself nodding off in a light sleep and had begun to dream of his early days at the work, when he had just graduated from Hogwarts and felt so lost in those seemingly cavernous halls of the Ministry of Magic. When he opened his eyes and saw where he was, he had to admit he was grateful to be where he was, at this present time of life. Amidst all the turmoil and stress he faced on a daily basis, at least he was grateful for the home he came to every night, and the family he called dear.
