The Main Entrance Gates to Hogwarts are located a short distance from Hogsmeade Station. The Entrance Gates are made of magnificent wrought iron and are flanked by two columns topped with statues of winged boars. Just a few yards from the gates is a small guardhouse with a tall chimney. The gates are opened on the first day of term and carriages pulled by Thestrals take students up to the castle. The gates are protected by anti-intruder jinxes.

The Wooden Bridge (also known as the Covered Bridge) is a feature of Hogwarts Castle. The bridge appears derelict, and was constructed of wood beams which extend to the floor of the ravine it laid across. The roof of the Covered Bridge is sagging and appears tarred. The bridge blends in with the natural environment surrounding it.
The Covered Bridge begins at one end of the Clock Tower Courtyard, at the base of the Clock Tower. At the end of the covered bridge there is a small stone gazebo with benches. Outside of it is the Sundial Garden. |

The Clock Tower Courtyard is a cloister on the base of the Clock Tower at Hogwarts Castle. This cloister seems to be one of the older parts of the castle and the ceiling and walls are dilapidated. It also leads to the Wooden Bridge and, as it is on a hill, is on the third floor. In the center of the courtyard is an antique fountain surrounded by statues of eagles. A pear tree also grows in this courtyard.

This is the small cabin at the edge of the Forbidden Forest which serves as the Gamekeeper’s home. It is a one room hut with the bare necessities of massive furniture. It is visible from the castle.

In the Greenhouses Herbology is taught. The Greenhouses contain various magical plants, Greenhouse three the more dangerous species.

Care of Magical Creatures is the only class without a classroom. It is generally held out on the school grounds so they have room to explore different types of creatures.

This is a grassy plain where Flying Classes are taught. After classes are out the green can be used for other sports as well.

This is the place where the four house teams of Hogwarts play Quidditch. It is an oval pitch with three golden hoops at each end and stands all around, which are decorated in the colours of the opposing teams during a match. Spectators sit in between the stands.

The Black Lake is in the south of the castle and the way the first years take when they sail to Hogwarts in small boats for the first time. It is about a mile in diameter and the Giant Squid, Merpeople and various other magical creatures live here.

The Forbidden Forest, also known as Dark Forest or Black Forest is, as the name implies, strictly forbidden for students to enter without supervision. Various creatures live here, some more dangerous than others and one never knows what one may encounter.
