1884. Victorian England. Political intrigue, secrecy, and social repression abound. Those that do fit into society’s standards of what is proper are “politely” ostracized and cast out from the class that previously offered them comfort. Wizards live together in small communities - Tinworth in Cornwall, Upper Flagley in Yorkshire, Ottery St. Catchpole in Devon, Godric’s Hollow in West Country, and Hogsmeade in Scotland - playing out the game of court the same as the noble muggles do.
Established in 1692, the International Statute of Secrecy told wizarding society to hide themselves from muggles, as to avoid persecution by the muggles. And so they did. They founded and built small villages and hamlets to live in as communities together, hidden away from the muggles through use of protective charms. But the blood is growing thin and some wizards have already taken the drastic step to intermingle with muggles - to create families with those who only two centuries ago cried out for their deaths. Tensions are rising between those families that wish for the blood to stay ‘pure’, a new term they have begun to use in reference to their blood, and those who believe it is time to return to the muggle world, to leave behind their small existence in hidden corners of the world and return once again to live amongst muggles.
With magic now gone in the royal line, wizarding kind has become even more wary of those shadows that linger in the dark and threaten to once again haunt them. The movement to preserve magical heritage through blood purity dwindles as fervor for muggle relations grow. How will one ever find his or her way in this society of magic based on ever-shifting views, secrecy, hypocrisy, and repression?
