SOCIAL CLASS:

RELATIONSHIP STATUS:

OCCUPATION:
Healer at Blake's Orphanage
PLAY-BY:
Shantel Vansanten
BLOOD STATUS:
Half-blood
EYES:
blue-green, depending on the lighting
HAIR:
Brunette hair with hint of red that pop in the sun
SKINTONE:
Sunkissed
HEIGHT & WEIGHT:
5'6, 125lbs
DISTINGUISHING MARKS:
Scar above her right eye
OVERALL PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
Elena is a slender woman with elegant curves. Her hair is long and hangs in waves that she pulls up in a messy bun on warmer days. She doesn't care too much about how she looks, although she has a natural beauty. She doesn't wear nice clothes as they usually get ruined anyways. Her face has been scarred by her father when she was a child, which she's a bit sensitive about.
NON-MAGICAL SKILLS:
Elena can cook and clean and is very good with children. She practically raised her younger sister and when the two of them were moved to the orphanage, she helped take care of the young ones. She reads well and loves to tell stories.
MAGICAL SKILLS:
She is excellent with healing spells. She learned as much as she could about them when she was in her young Hogwarts years to heal herself. She found that she enjoyed them and wanted to use them to help people when she was older. Aside from that, she never excelled in anything in particular. She was rather average when it came to her studies.
WEAKNESSES:
She suffered abuse as a child and is still dealing with that. She mostly refuses to talk about it because she doesn't want anyone's sympathy. She also shuts down easily. Instead of getting into an arguement with someone, she'll stop talking and shut people out. After years of doing the same with her father, she's just used to it. Does it sometimes without realizing. She's not exactly smart, in the bookish way. She missed out on a lot of schooling and spent much of her childhood working. She didn't have a tutor or a teacher like some of the upperclass children do, her mother taught her everything she needed to know.
STRENGTHS:
Elena is a caring woman with a big heart. She loves children and never gets tired playing silly games with them. She is strong and independent, having had to basically raise herself and her sister. She has a lot of hope for the future and great ambition for her life. She'd like to settle down and have a real home for her and her sister and have a real family full of love instead of anger and stress. She has a forgiving nature and tries to see the best in people. She has a great sense of humor and loves to make people smile.
QUIRKS & HABITS: Elena cleans when she's nervous. She doesn't like to sit still for long, as there's always something to be done. She does things without realizing she's doing them as they've become such a habit, such as picking up stray toys or clothes. She knits when she's sitting because she can't sit still and has knitted sweaters for most of the children in the orphanage. Her sister has several pairs of socks and a few scarves as well.
OVERALL PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION: Elena is a kind hearted woman who loves children. She spent most of her life caring for children, between her sister and those around her side of town. She practically raised herself and has become very independent. She never wants to have to depend on anyone, not because she's proud but because she doesn't want to be a burden. She spent her life feeling as though her family would be better off without her. They were poor people who struggled everyday. They worked hard to keep the children fed and keep a roof over their heads. She doesn't want to ever live like that again and works hard every day to prove that she's worth something.
She loves her position at the Orphanage. They saved her when she was a teenager and gave her sister a nice place to grow up in where she could be a child for once. She appreciates everything they've done for her family. She enjoys everything she gets to do there, whether it be the healing or just spending time with the children. She plays games with them and makes them laugh but most important to her is making them feel loved. They're orphans for a reason and everyone of them has their own sad story. She does her best to ensure that they have futures and that they can feel like they matter in the world. She encourages each one of them to do something great in their lives, whatever they enjoy, and just be happy.
Elena is very forgiving, something she learned from her mother. Walt, her father, was an angry man who always complained about one thing or another and Verna, her mother, would brush it off and loved him anyways. She took that to heart and forgives the rotten kids, the ones who've had it rough and act out. She knows they have their reasons and tries to help them through it instead of punishing them.
She's not perfect, though. She has nightmares of her father screaming. She shuts people out and doesn't let anyone get too close. As much as she loves to hear other people's stories, she's not a fan of telling hers. She doesn't want people to feel sorry for her or look down on her because of what she's been through. She doesn't handle confrontation well. She won't fight back, even when she knows she should. She's so used to shutting her mouth when being yelled at or talked down to that it's all she knows how to do. She can't stand up for herself unless she's in danger.

CHARACTER HISTORY:
Elena was born the second child of Verna and Walt Greyson. Her father held a simple job as a barkeep and a cook. Her mother picked up odd jobs such as cleaning or babysitting for the other families in their part of town. She grew up helping her mother most days. They were a poor family and they made do the best they could. Her brother spent his days doing repair work for people around the town. He was really good with his hands. His books and other school supplies came from the money he made on his own. Otherwise they wouldn't have been able to afford it. When it was time for Elena to go to school, she inherited all of Cole's old supplies.
He was a Gryffindor and she was a Hufflepuff. She loved everything about school. For the first time she felt like she didn't have anyone to take care of but herself. When she was at home, she was trying to earn money to help her family. But at school all she had to worry about were her studies. She made friends and was able to enjoy being a child for once in her life. During the summer before her third year at school, her mother went into labor with her third child. This one was certainly not planned and everyone worried how they would afford it. But after Katheryn was born, Verna passed away. The delivery had not been smooth and her body couldn't recover.
Their father wanted to toss the baby in the streets, angry that it had killed it's mother. But Elena wouldn't let him and reminded him that's not what Verna would have wanted. So Walt kept the baby girl and named her after Verna's mother. They struggled every day. Elena was worried about going to school that year but the draw of freedom was too much so she went away. During the summer when she returned home, Katheryn was a year old and obviously wasn't being cared for very well. Elena didn't return to school after that. She stayed home and carried Katie around while she worked, cleaning or sewing or tutoring little ones. Whatever she could do, just like her mother had.
She had dealt with verbal abuse from her father since she was a young child and her mother always assured her he didn't mean anything he said. That he was just stressed over money and overworked. There were times where he held two jobs or more and hardly slept. He took his anger out on his family, though Verna swore he loved them. Elena ignored all the comments but noticed they'd gotten worse, harsher, after Verna died. Walt never had a kind word to say about Katie. Always talking about her like she was an annoying pet, complaining any time she cried or wanted to be fed. "there she goes again," He would say, and Elena would hurry to feed her before he got even angrier.
He began drinking more and more to feed his sorrows. It made them struggle even more because his new addiction was costly but he didn't seem to care anymore. He would smack Elena upside the head when Katie cried and yell at her to shut the girl up. She took the abuse, telling herself that she could handle it. That he was just stressed. She taught herself to use healing spells to remove the bruises so no one would know what happened in their home, her brother especially. She didn't want him to worry. She could handle her father's abuse.
That was until Katie was three, and Elena was not yet 16. Walt came home early from work. He'd lost his job at the bar and was angry, more angry than Elena had seen him. He began shouting at the girls, telling them it was their fault. That they better get used to being hungry because they were never going to eat again. He hit Elena once, harder than usual and she smacked her head on the table. It caused a gash to form above her eye. She watched as blood poured down her face as Walt approached a crying Katheryn, scared from the shouting, with his hand raised. He'd never raised a hand to Katie before and Elena refused to let it happen now. She picked up the first thing she could find, a tool for the fireplace, and hit Walt in the back of the head. He hit the floor and didn't move again. She watched the blood pool around his head and knew she had killed him.
She made it out like it was an accident. That he'd had a bad fall. She didn't want anyone to know what she'd done, afriad they would put her away and she'd never see Katie again. They were taken to an orphanage, since they were both still minors. Cole offered to take them into his home but he was married now with a baby on the way, and it was like they were any better off. She refused, assuring him they would be fine at the orphanage together.
Elena liked the orphanage. It was sad, as there were many children without parents but she liked it. She spent time with the young children, teaching them new words and how to read and write. She played silly games with them, making them laugh and enjoy being children. She didn't want any of them to feel as she did growing up. She wanted them to be happy. The staff were impressed with her and how well she handled the children. When she became of age, she begged them to allow her to stay. She didn't want to leave Katie there alone and she had no where to go. They agreed and she began working for them, doing whatever she could. She liked healing most, taking pain from others gave her great joy. She tutored the children and helped them when they were sad. She got to give Katie a childhood, even if it wasn't perfect and that made her happy.
